Action of the formulation- Diabecon increases the peripheral utilisation of glucose and the hepatic and muscle glycogen content. Diabecon promotes β- cell repair/ regeneration and increases the C- peptide level. As it has antioxidant properties, Diabecon protects the β- cells from oxidative stress. Diabecon exerts insulin like action. By reducing the glycated haemoglobin level, normalising the microalbuminuria and modulating the lipid profile, Diabecon minimises the diabetes related co-morbid states.
Indications:
1. Non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) as a single or adjuvant to oral antidiabetic drugs.
2. NIDDM with signs and symptoms of hyperlipidaemia.
3. NIDDM with early retinopathy.
4. NIDDM with microalbuminuria.
5. As an adjuvant in insulin- dependent diabetes mellitus.
Adverse effects: Not reported.
Contraindications: No absolute contraindications.
Special precautions: Diabecon is safe. However, when used as an adjuvant in NIDDM and IDDM, it is advisable to titrate the dose of oral antidiabetic and insulin under careful medical supervision.
Dosage: 2 tablets two or three times daily.
