Sanskrit / Indian Name Vrikshamla
Garcinia indica is a slender evergreen tree with drooping branches and five to eight large seeds. The fruit has an agreeable flavor and a sweetish sour taste. Kokam contains 10% malic acid and a little tartaric or citric acid. It is used as a garnish to give a sour taste to curries and also for preparing cooling syrups during the summer months. Cambojin, garcinol, isogarcinol, Hydroxy Citric Acid, and Cambogia were identified from the fruit.

Vrikshamla helps increase the availability of serotonin, an important a chemical that reduces overeating by inducing a feeling of satiety. Hydroxycitric, a compound in Vrikshamla, helps control cholesterol and triglycerides by blocking the key enzyme ATP-citrate lyase which converts carbohydrates into fatty acids. Vrikshamla helps prevent an unhealthy accumulation of fat in the body by helping maintain healthily weight.

INDICATIONS
The fruit is anthelmintic, cardiotonic, and useful in piles, dysentery, tumors, pains, and heart complaints. Syrup made from the fruit juice is given in bilious affections. It is also known to reduce weight. The root is astringent.
DOSAGE
1-2 tablets twice daily or as directed by the physician.
